A very distinctive, dark red plum with red flesh, often called the "blood plum." The fruit is oval-shaped, medium in size and very sweet. The tree is upright and very productive. The fruit is susceptible to cracking in prolonged wet periods. Satsuma plum tree was a Luther Burbank introduction from Japan in late 1800s. Favorite cooking plum. Mid-season and partially self-fruitful. Pollinate for heavy crops with Shiro or Santa Rosa.
